Ink [Blu-ray] Review

I am glad I bought this film sight unseen, having only heard some good things in the alt. press. 'Ink' is not a major film, it didn't have a major release, or advertising. It was made by a couple in Colorado who wanted to make it. They raised the money to do the project themselves. Their friends helped. They made their own costumes, made their own music. The actors are mostly unknown, and up and coming.

I don't want to give away the plot hook, suffice it to say that Ink is a modern fairytale about fatherhood, told as a battle between forces of light and darkness, with the key players being a girl in a coma, and her estranged father. The supporting characters are the Storytellers, beatific beings who give people good dreams, and the Incubus, dark beings who give people nightmares. And then there is the enigmatic Ink, who carries Emma into the dreamrealm, to sacrifice her to the Incubus to insure his transformation into one of them. The how and the why is where the real drama of this film lies, and it's ultimate revelation is one the most emotionally profound moments of redemption in any film I saw of 2009. It brought me to tears. Finding it in such a small film is quite special.

I did find there was a confusing bit of character development in the film that felt like a cheat, but on repeat viewings realized the film uses a non-linear narrative device. The title of this review is the clue.

A word on the transfer: this film is quite beautiful in hi-def. Now, there are alot of overblown contrasts, image softening and color treatments, some heavy digital noise in the darkest segments, but detail is usually very sharp, if not striking. I found all of the photography choices quite clever, and lend to a strong nostalgic feel. The sound mix is very clear at low volume, except for the dialogue gets a little quiet near the climax. The music by director Jamin Winans is magisterial, and perfectly lends to the action and emotion of the story.

I can't recommend this film enough. Rent it. Buy it.

Ghost Whisperer - The Second Season Review

[note: this is a review of the series, not the DVDs so much]

So, this is what Jessica Love Hewitt is up to these days. I'm not a fan of ghost stories generally and would normally warn those who aren't to shy away from this series. However, if you can get by the ghosts, several of the episodes use the ghost story as a plot device to explore compelling HUMAN stories (somewhat like Hewitt's film "If Only"). As such, even if you don't like ghosts, read on:

The good:
In the episodes I've seen at least, the story with the ghosts provided a segway into a far more compelling human drama. For example, in one episode I saw, the ghosts torment a father and daughter who feel guilty over the mother's death. The emotionally compelling part of the episode was seeing the father and daughter deal with their guilt and frustration. Hewitt, as the ghost whisperer, indirectly helps these catharses.

Now, the bad:
The ghosts aren't subtle. With a few exceptions (generally shadows in a dark room), the ghosts look and act just like normal people, only that "only" Hewitt can see them. There's no especially pale skin, glow, or anything else to make the ghosts seem supernatural. Admittedly, this varies by episode, and some ghosts seem to have supernatural powers. Still, don't expect freaky special effects.

In short, if you like the type of sitcom/dramas generally shown on the WE channel, you might like Ghost Whisperer. Don't be too turned off by the ghosts in the stories (even if the ghosts can get snarky at times). However, this isn't a sci-fi series or comedy sitcom.

Ghost Whisperer - The Second Season Overview

Melinda Gordon (Jennifer Love Hewitt) communicates with earthbound spirits, ghosts who cling to the living because they have unfinished business that prevents them from moving beyond the familiar plane of existence that we call life. Inspired in part by the work of famed medium James Van Praagh and of Mary Ann Winkowski, a real-life communicator with spirits, GHOST WHISPERER explores the spiritual side of life and death as Melinda navigates among the dead and the living in her sometimes chilling, sometimes heart-rending and sometimes amusing attempts to act as an intermediary between the ghosts and those they haunt. Jim (David Conrad), her husband, worries about the emotional toll this work is taking on his wife as they embark on a new life together. Andrea, her friend and business partner in their antique store, is fascinated by Melinda's talent. Melinda is somewhat reluctant to reveal her "gift" to new friend Delia Banks (Camryn Manheim), a single mom who lives in Grandview, fearing the consequences of drawing her into this "unconventional" world. For her part, Melinda accepts her unique abilities as a blessing and sometime a curse, but always helps her clients--alive or dead--find emotional closure.

Ghost Whisperer - The Second Season Specifications

The second season of Ghost Whisperer--that cornucopia of spookiness, warmhearted crescendos, and cleavage-emphasizing outfits--strengthened the show's basic formula with tighter writing and engaging new characters. After an opening episode that resolves the first season's cliffhangers (with a black-hatted baddie and a beloved "earthbound spirit" in peril), our heroine Melinda Gordon (Jennifer Love Hewitt) launches forward with three new friends: Dr. Rick Payne (Jay Mohr, Jerry Maguire), a prickly, sarcastic professor of the occult; Delia Banks (Camryn Manheim, The Practice), a skeptical but warmhearted realtor who helps Melinda run her antique shop; and Delia's son Ned (Tyler Patrick Jones), a rebellious but goodhearted scamp. More significantly, the ratio of creepy thrills and beatific resolutions has been recalibrated to crank up the thrills. Which is good news--while helping ghosts find the light may be Melinda's reason for being, those happy endings are more satisfying when preceded by scary special effects and what-will-happen-next chills. On top of that, the show's creators carefully weave in a season-long story arc that culminates a three-episode conclusion (which, naturally, leaves plenty of questions open for the third season to investigate) involving a rival ghost whisperer whose motivations are not so selfless as Melinda's. Clearly, the show's fans were hungry for more of Melinda's stoic, hunky husband Jim (David Conrad); not only does he get many more opportunities to be unflinchingly supportive, he gets haunted by a supermodel and has a best friend who starts dating Delia. Stories range from a vengeful cheerleader to a phantom dog to an old boyfriend of Melinda's, who even in death hasn't gotten over her winsomeness. Most often people are haunted by family members and lost loved ones, who--though they knock things over, possess the living, and generally raise a ruckus--are almost always seeking forgiveness or to pass on sage advice. Through it all, Melinda summons her pluck and marches into danger wearing what seems to be an endless supply of flowy coats and low-cut party dresses. Ghost Whisperer is a love-it-or-hate-it show, and those who love it do so passionately. The show's creators reciprocate with an abundance of extras, ranging from earnest episode commentaries and behind-the-scenes docs to a series of "webisodes" of an internet serial about a bicycle delivery guy learning to cope with death to a peculiar "Jennifer Love Hewitt Speed Painting Video." --Bret Fetzer

What a great collection.

I already wrote something about "Cat People" on its own DVD page at Amazon, but I wanted to say a couple of things about "The Seventh Victim," which is one of the bleakest films I've ever seen.

It begins with a Metaphysical poem about death ("I run to death and death meets me as fast / And all my pleasures are like yesterday") and never lets up.

A woman is reported missing, and her younger sister (played by Kim Hunter) goes to Greenwich Village looking for her - but not before the (dreary) boarding school administrators tell Hunter (an orphan) never to return.

Hunter discovers her sister's apartment contains nothing but a chair, over which is a hanging noose. And there's a murder. And a satanic cult. And two creepy guys on a subway with a corpse. And a dying neighbor. And three people in love with objects of desire they can't have. And an attempt to get someone to commit suicide. And a shower scene that momentarily seems to anticipate the famous scene in "Psycho." And then there's that ending.

And all of this occurs in just a little over an hour!

Val Lewton's name is synonymous with the subtlest, most mysterious brand of horror filmmaking in Hollywood's golden age, and the nine horror classics he produced at RKO between 1942 and 1946 constitute the most remarkable cycle of creativity in B-movie history. (For the record, the Lewton/RKO legacy also includes two non-horror entries, Youth Runs Wild and Mademoiselle Fifi.)

Before becoming a film producer, the Russian-born Lewton was a prolific writer of pulp fiction, nonfiction, and a couple of pornographic novels. He also worked for years as assistant to David O. Selznick, a legendary producer with a distinctive personal signature--and a flair for grandiosity Lewton himself never emulated. It's ever so revealing that, on Selznick's Gone With the Wind, it was Lewton who came up with the idea for the famous rising shot of the Atlanta railyard filled with Southern wounded, with the Confederate flag streaming above--only he idly proposed it as a joke, never imagining that anyone would actually film such a spectacularly ambitious scene.

In 1942 Lewton left Selznick to undertake a series of horror films for RKO Radio Pictures. The studio would give him a budget around 0,000 per picture and a title RKO deemed to be grabby; Lewton would have a free hand as long as he stayed on budget, used the title, and gave the studio a salable movie of second-feature length (around 70 minutes). Over time, Lewton would increasingly have trouble with studio supervisors, but RKO was the right place for him. Although low in the pecking order among Hollywood majors, the studio made up for its lack of MGM-style glamour and Warner Bros. grit-and-gusto by working in a finely filigreed, almost miniaturist style. The art department under Van Nest Polglase and Albert S. D'Agostino was capable of exquisite artisanry, and in Nicholas Musuraca, a master of low-key cinematography and supple camerawork, Lewton found an invaluable collaborator in creating moody shadow-worlds where what you couldn't see was more disquieting than what you could.

He was also fortunate in having Jacques Tourneur to direct his first three efforts (they had teamed years earlier on the Bastille-storming sequence for Selznick's A Tale of Two Cities). They scored first time out of the gate with both a popular hit and a masterpiece: Cat People (1942). The story involves a pretty young Serbian woman in Manhattan (Simone Simon) convinced that her ancestors had practiced animal worship during the Middle Ages--and that she herself might shape-change into a lithe, ravening panther if her passions were aroused. The film is uncannily successful in keeping the viewer guessing whether this is a phobia borne of morbid obsession and sexual repression, or a genuine, horrific possibility. There are two sequences of matchless artistry and almost unbearable suspense--a lonely, echoing walk through pools of lamplight alongside Central Park, and a late-night swim in a deserted indoor pool--that build to throat-grabbing climaxes and remain milestones in the history of screen horror.

Many critics feel that the second Lewton-Tourneur endeavor, I Walked With a Zombie (1943), is both men's finest work. The title is so lurid that the heroine-narrator (Frances Dee) must shrug it off with her very first words, yet the movie is an amazingly delicate and poetic piece of spellbinding--nothing less than a reworking of Jane Eyre on a voodoo island in the Caribbean. Other horror aficionados prefer the more mainline ferocity of The Leopard Man (1943), an adaptation of a Cornell Woolrich story about a serial killer strewing corpses along the U.S.-Mexican border. Although on one level this is the Lewton film that veers closest to conventional mystery-suspense, there's no end of unsettling ambiguity (another black panther on the loose!) and hints of occultism and religious mania.

RKO promoted Tourneur to A-movies after this; Lewton would never again have so masterly a directorial partner. Yet in a weird sense (which is only appropriate), this underscores how much Lewton--with his wealth of arcane historical lore and storytelling archetypes, his quiet, patient attention to detail, and his taste for oblique narrative--was the essential auteur of all his films. Promoting first Mark Robson and then Robert Wise from the editing table, Lewton went on to make the deeply mysterious The Seventh Victim (1943) and The Ghost Ship (1943), two films in which such grotesque elements as Satan worship and murderous psychopathology are folded away inside eerily drifty, almost becalmed sleepwalks into eternal night. The Seventh Victim--a movie populated with more walking dead than Lewton's out-and-out zombie picture--is one of the cinema's supreme meditations on the ways lives brush against one another in the spaces of a great, impersonal city. And The Ghost Ship (the rarest of Lewton's films, owing to a ruinous copyright suit) is like a fever dream from which the viewer never awakens.

That's enough for a legacy, surely. Yet there remain The Curse of the Cat People (1944), a sequel that is not quite a sequel, a pretend-horror movie that's really a contemplation of the fragility of childhood; Isle of the Dead (1945), a doomed reverie about travelers who escape the Goya-esque chaos of a 19th-century war only to be beset with plague on a miasma-shrouded island; The Body Snatcher (1945), an atmospheric Robert Louis Stevenson adaptation that invokes the grisly history of graverobbers Burke and Hare, and supplies a together-again-for-the-last-time occasion for Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi; and Bedlam (1946), the Hogarth painting come to life to portray the real-life horrors of an 18th-century insane asylum. Bedlam's critical and box-office failure ended Lewton's quasi-independent status at RKO; he would live to make only three other, unsuccessful films.

James Agee, the premier American film critic of the 1940s, reckoned that Val Lewton was one of the three foremost creative figures in Hollywood--an assessment yet more impressive when we consider that the other two were Charles Chaplin and Walt Disney. His greatest films--Cat People, I Walked with a Zombie, The Seventh Victim--are towering achievements, and even his half-realized projects are haunting experiences, the products of an utterly distinctive sensibility. Ghost Rider (Widescreen Edition) Review

If you follow the Ghost Rider comic book series, you will probably like this movie; if you've never been exposed to GR before, it might be a better idea to rent this one first.

Nick Cage does a good job of portraying the title characters complete detatchment from, and disreguard for, his own life, trying to come to grips with what he's been suckered into. The special effects are very well done, and overall this is a very good 'port' of a comic book story to the big screen.

Once intended as a feature for Johnny Depp, the long-germinating feature film adaptation of Marvel Comics' cult title Ghost Rider stars Nicolas Cage as motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who transforms into a skull-faced angel of vengeance to battle the forces of evil. Though perhaps a bit too mature for the role, Cage brings a degree of humor to the outrageous proceedings; he's well matched by the Easy Rider himself Peter Fonda, amusingly cast as Mephistopheles, the demon with whom Blaze strikes a bargain to save his father, and in turn, causes his transformation into Ghost Rider. Wes Bentley is also fine as Blackheart, the rebellious offspring of Mephistopheles, and Blazes' chief opponent in the film. They're joined by a solid supporting cast which includes Donal Logue, Eva Mendes, and Sam Elliott, but their participation and a relentless barrage of CGI effects can't hide the fact that the story itself, though largely faithful to its comic origins, is rife with clichéd characterizations and glum B-movie dialogue. Fans of the venerable title may cry foul over this adaptation (as they did over helmer Mark Steven Johnson's previous comic-to-movie feature, Daredevil), but less stringent viewers may enjoy the fiery visuals and Cage's typically quirky performance. --Paul Gaita

Texhnolyze - Retaliation (Vol. 3) Review

Is it just me or is Ichise getting more sociable? I mean he wouldn't do well at a party but I was amazed when he said about 10 words in this, the third volume of a very deep show. In the aftermath of a street battle between the three main factions controlling Lukuss, Ichise is picked up by Onishi, leader of the Organo. Yoshii, the stranger from the surface world, is doing his best to cause chaos, with his stated aim to make a leader rise up who will be able to unite the entire city behind him or her. I think he just enjoys all the blood. At the same time, rivals in the Organo organization are trying to wrest control away from Onishi, blaming him for all the face Organo has been losing due to his aversion to starting a street war. You really shouldn't get a a guy like Onishi mad, especially if he has Ichise backing him up. Will Yoshii's plan bear fruit?

I have to say that you if you've made it to this volume you probably like what you have seen. I started to quit at Volume 1 but went on watching and I'm glad I did. This really reminds me of a Western except its main character is The Man With No Words! A lot of the show works on mood, especially when Ran, the clairvoyant little girl shows up. Just looking at her eyes makes you take notice of her. Volume 3 is a little heavier on the action than the other two volumes and it actually lets us in on the pasts of some of the main characters. Good show!

Silent Hill [Blu-ray] Review

First off, let me just say I am pretty new to Silent Hill. I've beaten Silent Hill 2 and 5 over the year, plus I've tried SH 1 & 4.

I just recently watched this movie from beginning to end and was astounded! (I hadn't seen the whole movie when it first came out, only about 30 minutes.) Anyway, you don't need a Blu-Ray to appreciate the beauty of this film but you do need a home-theater to truly get the feeling! The ambience was very well accomplished, it felt alot like the games, this movie stayed true to the gamers & did not try to attract some brainless hollywood fanbase which probably couldn't even understand the movie anyway. I was surprised that this movie was actually a good game adaptation! Most of it's imitators failed miserably: Doom, Resident Evil, were there any others? I believe the reason it was so accomplished is thanks to Cristophe Gans who, if you watch the special features you will see is a true Silent Hill fan. However don't be fooled, this movie packs some mind-blowing special effects. It is a big budget film. The story is beautifully put together, not too confusing nor too revealing, just perfect. The imagery is dazzling, the colors, the details in the environment, everything was perfect in my opinion. The soundtrack stayed true to it's origins which is great. My only complaint was that Room Of Angel was not in the movie, too bad. Not a big problem though, this movie still falls into my all-time favorite movies category. If you are a fan of the games, well you've probably already seen it but for those of you who know nothing about the games, I think you could actually become a fan. This movie deserves at least a rental, if you're the least bit open-minded and not restricted by gore and action boundaries, you will enjoy this movie.

I got this after getting it on a sale after buying another movie called Death Trance and while not really having any true seriousness or drama it's still unusually entertaining to watch. The main character seems to be a mix of Sailor moon and power rangers storyline intermixed with the usual over the top villains and allies to help or hinder the heroine throughout the movie. The movie can be for most people of all ages and while there is showing of the character in her underwear there isn't any true nudity or offensiveness in the movie for parents to really worry about. The acting is also a mix of over the top to natural with the usual boasting overconfident villains and friends that make the scenes truly enjoying to watch. The video is decent and sharp with no true blurriness or distortions to worry about and the audio is very well down as well. So if you're a fan of the sailor moon anime or the power rangers show here's something to check out and see if it's your cup of tea...

One of the most frequently heard deals in our world, reinventing especially in motivational circles and in Internet marketing is "not the wheel." The advice of the writer is to the work of other people, be aware that this is done, read, and the formula that they follow completely. In this way you can "manage" without being in too much work. The formula for success:
1. Create a group of non-human characters interesting, ogres, dragons, elves and dwarves, of course, that your hero must be human or substantially human

2. Put them in a fantasy world filled with magical secrets

4. Keep the action moving - you create a series of small obstacles

He fought against the internal conflicts and battles the creatures of evil, and learns something about himself on the street. The great writer was a kind of courage.
Tolkien was terrible for his work when he first published criticism. But he believed in the world, and creates persevered. Stephen King had the courage to move freely between different genres, even in the same book. Robert Howard has had the courage to write whatwant to write, though he never achieved the financial pay off he deserved. Frank Herbert had the courage to tackle the big problems and big issues of life. And you think that Harry Potter would have reached such heights if JK Rowling does not really Harry?
And where the muscles are connected with the writer made the world of the fantasy epic, the courage for what is right move? It is the writer of the genre before somewhere? MaybeYou?
Some tips
Courage! Do not write something because you think to sell it. Do not shoot for something important. Can not read the popular epic fantasy novels of the moment and follow the same formula. Background: One of the fundamental lessons of the fantasy epic in itself does not follow, that the public opinion. You write an epic fantasy, and your main character is without a doubt going to face the challenges of epic proportions. Have the courage to do the sameThing. Suggest something new.

Fantasy epic is not really slay dragons and rescue princesses. This is a deeper meaning. It is about the search for meaning in life. It takes about a road never taken, and the challenges we face is not known. Follow the same path in your life and your writing.
Forget the grammar - now
Too often a writer is made in sentence structure,Grammar and a number of other technical details. Innovate. Let's develop the story and allow the exchange of ideas. Worry about the grammar later. For now, should you write. Your ideas on paper. The world is waiting for your novel. Take the chance and go against the popular belief. The world thanks you.

This is by far the best film in the Terminator series, and one of my all-time favorite movies! Arnold played his role superbly, as did all of the actors. The effects were way beyond it's time and still look great! The story was more rich, yet just as dark as the first Terminator. The entire series could've ended here, and everyone would've been satisfied... Overall, a must-see for any sci-fi/action fan!

The Tomb Review

I have to be honest about this movie, it was not a let down, it had a lot of physical and mental agony and did meet my uncertain horror exceptions. For a director Ulli Lommel horror, this is a decent and terrifying movie. These horror movies always seem to have some desolate eerie location in South Russia and this one is centered as tale of torture. I do appreciate the blood of this movie and it surely must have been extreme for a H.P. Lovecraft story.

I recommend renting it and gathering your friends around with a few vodkas and just hiding your head off at the horror.

Great, well-grounded family entertainment. Lovecraft's family that is.

Gojoe: Spirit War Chronicle Review

As I wrote in the title for, "Gojoe: Spirit War Chronicle," this is not a film for everyone. However, I really enjoyed the film. Sometimes [many times] a film does not have to tie all the loose ends to be enjoyed, sometimes just the escapism and pure enjoyment of a film as an entertaining piece of cinema is good enough. And I found the film interesting enough to put in my collection. Plus, I liked the character of Benkei (Daisuke Ryu) as a monk who has put down his sword, yet decides that he must complete one more mission. Benkei was once a famed swordsman, however, it has been years since he has slain anyone. Yet things are about to change: For there is an evil presence at Gojoe Bridge. Who is killing all the samurai? And for that matter, why?

Benkei tries to enlist the help of his former mentor, who warns Benkei that he is not ready for this mission. Further, this monk warns Benkei that he will fail because he has not seen the way. Yeah, I know, sounds like a bunch of silly philosophical mumbo-jumbo, [and maybe it is] but that does not mean the film is not entertaining. At least for me. Moreover, I really liked the character actors in the film too. Plus, the antagonist in the film is portrayed by (Tadanobu Asano), who gives a very good portrayal in his role as a gifted swordsman. Tadanobu Asano is trying to reclaim his place as the rightful heir to the land, and watching his performance makes this film a worthwhile watch. Plus, the cinematography in the film is very good. Although there are spots here and there in the film where the picture is not very clear, they are few and far between. The film itself has great cinematography.

The films narrative takes place in 12th Century Japan, at a place called Gojoe Bridge. Apparently, many members of a warrior clan are being killed by an unknown entity. Benkei, a former warrior has become a Buddhist and refuses to kill anymore, however, he changes his mind and decides to destroy whatever evil is lurking at Gojoe Bridge. Is it human? Or is it something else? I will leave this to the viewer to watch. I can tell you, however, that this movie does not disappoint. It sure did not disappoint me. I thought the cinematography and the acting and action sequences were very good, and the film definitely has an original storyline. I am a huge fan of the Toshirio Mifune and Akira Kurosawa classics. [Not that I am comparing this film to those earlier classics]. I am not. However, I like it when directors come along with something different for a change, and this film is definitely different. And once again, this is not a film for everyone, therefore, rent it first. [Stars: 4.5]

The romantic comedy has the potential, but Confessions of a Shopaholic, not enough emotional depth and missed the target with its contents flat.
Confessions of a Shopaholic sounds like a recipe for success on paper. Fresh Starlets,Isla Fisher and Hugh Dancy are able to spread their wings in an increasingly important role, together with a number of established stars, while PJ Hogan expected to use its exuberance behind the camera with a sub-plot in layers in an e-book adaptation. Isla Fisher gives a fiery performance that is funny, ditsy, and over-the-top at times. This is a sympathetic character, that is fine and there, it is easy to sympathize with her.
Fisher stars in Dancy, the screen has a strongcomparable with the presence of Hugh Grant. The two are a couple of clever and amusing to see their relations with wrestling in the world of work in the game. However, the story is not centered on the couple of hours ... Spreads on careers, shopping, love, family and friends. This dilutes the script to vent everything seems a little "surface as Rebecca is a close relationship with each character.
The movie is fun, the battles still to immerse hisAudience in history. The entire production is difficult to identify and it will become more difficult with their history of double glazing connection. The lack of contact with humans is facilitated by the terrible slapstick scenes, in addition to comedy, but to sell to the public. The story combines fantasy and reality in a style, Ally McBeal, the animation of the mannequins. The mixture is low and the distances of the character with several references to them.

Does not justify the film content with a little over 90 minutes, but his multilayered subplots to Confessions of a Shopaholic about 15 minutes too long.
Potential production is a pity that the film has tried to cram so much into the story without having to build one or two main points to plot. TheBenefits are good and the direction is constant, even if the change is choppy and the writing has no substance.
Confessions of a Shopaholic is not the same compound, such as Bridget Jones's Diary, the administration, a soft-sell message that is a hot topic for consumers in the economic environment of today. If you are in the mood for a romantic getaway light with a girl, then Confessions of a Shopaholic is Your Ticket to Ride. If you do something a little substance "morethen you should stick with Bridget Jones's Diary and The Devil Wears Prada.
The bottom line: ditsy.

Toys Review

Last year was a dried up year for me, because not much has been going on. I bought this DVD 2 days before Thanksgiving because I needed something to get me into the holiday spirit, and it worked and keeped me laughing from the scean where the head of Zevo toys dies to the end of the film. The film starts out when the Zevo toy company puts on a christmas ballet musical in the style of The Nutcracker with singing, the lead female singer sings this song in the production called toys at christmas which is a really great holiday song that should of got a grammy nomanee. Then theres the scean where the General(played by Michael Gambon who played Professor Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films) goes to viset his brother who is the head and founder of Zevo toys tells him that he is dying and wants him to take over Zevo toys because he thinks that his son Leslie (played by the funest and funnest actor in movie history Robin Willams) is not ready to take over Zevo toys, this shows that you can't always get what you want. The head of Zevo toys dies with his pace maker attached to his beeny with a propeller attached. So they give him a ride in the vicheal in the desighn of a toy amblunce. Then we go to the funeral scean where everyone is gathering around the casket. The Minster tells them that Kenneth was the child in all of them and goes on until they hear some kind of strange laughter coming from the casket. Leslie open the lide and pulles out this toy called the barral of laughter. He put the toy back in the casket. Owen tells Leslie that he should remove the batteries from the laughing barrel and back in the casket. Leslie tell him that the batteries will die in a couple of hours. Well the batteries don't die. As for the rest of the movie, you have to see it through the eyes of a child. Everything in the rest of the movie looks like toys, The toy making machines, Anastasia work cloths look like doll cloths, The house Leslie and Anastasia live in is a giant doll house, Leslie bed is in the shape of a rubber ducky, and Kennth Zevo tombstone is a giant elephant blowing bubbles with that laughing barrel still working and laughing. The general who now run the toy company now has the toys made into war toys. So its up to Leslie and Anastasia to to fight the battles of war toys. They even make a music video in the style of a Peter Gaberal and The Talking Heads. The question is can Leslie and Anastasia save the toy company? that you will have to find out when you watch this movie. This movie was kinda like if Willy Wonka decided to turn his beloved chocolate factory into a toy factory. This movie is also dated, because a new type of video game was invented for the movie and for Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio called Virurital reality. So don't wait for christmas morning to open presents and one of them to be this DVD. buy it now while you are starting to get into the christmas spirite.

Toys Overview

There are two reasons to see Toys: some phenomenal visual spectacle and the utterly adorable performance of Joan Cusack. The story: When the founder of the Zevo toy factory dies, he leaves it to his militaristic brother Leland (Michael Gambon) instead of to his whimsical son Leslie (Robin Williams). When Leland starts making war toys (and worse, actual weapons masquerading as toys), Leslie is forced to stop being capricious and take on some authority. Toys is supposedly about innocence and peace, but really it's director Barry Levinson's cry of anxiety about modern-day playthings, particularly video games--which is almost psychic of him, given how video games have started to devour the entertainment market. Fans of Williams will enjoy his performance; the visual design really is gorgeous; and Cusack, as Leslie's sister Alsatia, is so lovely she almost carries the film through its muddled themes. Saw II (Full Screen Edition) Review

This movie had a lot going for it. It also had a lot to live up to. It still had the feel and suspense of the first one. I wish they would have kept Jigsaw in the shadows more. Some of the suspense of the character was taken away from all of the screen time. This movie didn't have the individualized traps like the first one. The group had to take on the challenges together. It was still a good movie, but it didn't have the same amount of intensity the first one did. It tried to create it by using the nerve gas as a ticking time bomb, but the feel of this movie is just not up to the scope of the first one. I didn't care for Doonie Wahlberg's character. He seemed like a jerk, not as good of a character as Detective Tapp in the first one. There's no outside force on these characters like the first one. There is the nerve gas, but you never know how much time they have left. The characters aren't as developed, and they don't seem to grow as the movie unfolds. There are a few interesting traps, but they seem to hate each other instead of Jigsaw. The ending was a little predictable, unlike the first. The addition of the assistant is not my favorite, but it doesn't hurt this movie, it does hurt the movies that follow. Overall a nice sequel, unfortunately the movies will only decline from here.

Fans of Saw will love Saw II, as the tortures are more gruesome than before; viewers who found Saw either detestable or laughable won't like Saw II either, as the characters rarely behave like actual people (even when a moment's explanation would solve a conflict, no one bothers to communicate, even though their lives are on the line). Two Orphan Vampires Review

In many respects "Two Orphan Vampires" epitomizes the films of Jean Rollin. Its subject matter is Rollin's favorite: murderous but strangely vulnerable vampires. His protagonists are (as usual) two girls--possibly lesbian, certainly vampiric. Furthermore, the film's overall atmosphere, a disquieting blend of elegy and fairy tale, is typical of Rollin's work. Nevertheless, "Two Orphan Vampires" stands out as the great director's finest masterpiece--a poetic gem whose underlying theme is nothing less than the Imagination itself.
Though the film's predacious central characters, Henriette and Louise, are raised in a Catholic orphanage, thence removed to the Parisian mansion of their adoptive father--their actual home is within their own minds. Typically adolescent, the two girls share a secret fantasy world based largely on all the forbidden literature they can borrow or pilfer--fantastic picture books, penny dreadfuls, horrific chapbooks, etc. Absolutely Romantic, they allow their Gothic imagination to enter the real world in a quintessentially Gothic form: they practice vampirism.
Who can blame them? The normal world, as presented by Rollin, is unbearably dismal. Initially it is symbolized by the orphanage's monotony. At the film's close the world contracts to an indifferent, motionless swamp. Given these prospects, along with the apparent death or slumber of God(s), Henriette and Louise declare bloody war against the status quo. Vive L'Imagination! Rollin's idea, expressed through his heroines' actions, couldn't be clearer: "I think I am a vampire; therefore I am a vampire." (My apologies to Descartes.)
Naturally, Henriette and Louise lack a classical vampire's superhuman powers. Though they claim to have night-vision, they use a flashlight to read one of their fantastic books at night. Furthermore, one of their first victims (legendary Brigitte Lahaie) observes that even their vampiric fangs are fake! Their limitations notwithstanding, the two girls manage to bring down a number of victims, usually by well-coordinated surprise attacks. Of course, as their vampirism springs from their inner Romanticism, their relish for blood is quite excessive.
Unfortunately, as the young vampiresses' contempt for the all-too-human world becomes more pronounced, their attacks grow more audacious--which makes their defeat inevitable...
Perfectly cast as the film's title characters, Mlles. Alexandra Pic and Isabelle Teboul are a joy to behold. While each possesses a unique beauty, together they are downright sublime! Combining youthful playfulness with a true longing for adventure; infinitely tender toward each other, while despising everyone else as something akin to sacrificial cattle: Alexandra and Isabelle are at once wonderful and malefic--perfect emblems of Romantic Imagination! Thus they've earned a place among the greatest horror film girls--Ingrid Pitt and Soledad Miranda. And that comparison alone indicates that "Two Orphan Vampires" is as excellent a film as "The Vampire Lovers" or "Vampyros Lesbos"--classics of the genre.

I immediately thought of diving in some opinions, what makes a good fantasy story. I admit I read most of the romantic imagination, but I know what makes a good story, if I have a read.
Research: an imaginary world is very complicated. Doing research is important. Create a complex fantasy fund is for the reader in the creation of vital importance, even if the reader does not "see" your world. Need to know where your charactersgoing to do and who is responsible.
As a reader, I will always be the "real world" hypothesis. So if you have normalized your imagination, or a gravity field that can be connected to the land, you must describe in detail. Do not give your readers a whole list of details, descriptions and basic information on how you should supplement your readers. Please note that your reader is blind until you find the pieces of the puzzle for Visual contactthem.
Ordinary Objects: Besides the fun of writing is fantasy to ordinary objects can do extraordinary things. The baton has been taken ... and the fact ... and ready. As a writer, you can most ordinary objects are different qualities generally associated with this object, for example a candle, which works like a key or a sword, are not reduced, but acts like a compass. The possibilities are endless!

I knew what the new world, I knew they were the characters and wanted to know what happened afterwards. These are the things that make a success story. I do not want to end, but for those who have not read the series, I recommend.

More than half of these movies I first saw at a local drive-in movie theater when me and some friends got small cans of margarita mix, some snacks, and had a blast laughing most of the time. Now I dont have to leave the house, and I still laugh. Who needs boring talk and endless extras when this movie set cuts (CUTS??) to the chase with the main arena in a long line of typical laughable folk in absolute harms way. This movie line cannot be too bad when the first movie presents the beginning of the terror with the realization that it is the mother who actually started it all, and the rest to follow is nothing more than a series of a grotesque on revenge for his mother's assasination. Though I basicallly gave up drinking (and what not), this great easy to put on the tube discs run the gamut of what made me tick in the drive-in movie 80s, and well worth the fondest of memories. Now wasnt that sentimental, AWWWwwwwww. Slash!!!!!

Friday the 13th - From Crystal Lake to Manhattan (Ultimate Edition DVD Collection) Specifications

Five discs gather the first eight movies in the Friday the 13th series, plus a batch of behind-the-scenes featurettes. You can track the rise, fall, and endless resurrections of Jason Voorhees, from the original 1980 film to Jason's self-kidding trip to the Big Apple. Horror fans eat up packages such as this, but there's something odd about the deluxe treatment for a series that spotlighted atrocious acting, pitiful production values, and inane storytelling.
You'll spot a few future "name" actors in various installments: Kevin Bacon is morbidly dispatched in the first one. But in general, the dominant focus is how to kill horny teenagers, most of whom have gathered at Camp Crystal Lake in the misguided belief that the curse of the impossible-to-kill Jason has worn off. The first movie has a certain raw, crummy ability to shock, Part 2 is a dismal retread, and Part 3 actually features interesting use of 3-D, which doesn't translate to its flat DVD version. The fourth is boldly subtitled The Final Chapter, and we all know where that went, but it does have Crispin Glover doing a funky dance. A New Beginning and Jason Lives continue Jason's bad mood, maybe because the hockey mask doesn't fit right. The seventh chapter, The New Blood, stakes Jason against a worthy opponent (Crystal Lake's answer to telekinetic Carrie), but the result is the same. Part 8's subtitle, Jason Takes Manhattan, is wittier than the movie itself, as Jason menaces an unlucky cruise ship of high-schoolers bound for New York--where Mr. J fits right in.
Some of the films come with commentaries from directors or cast members, including heralded Jason performer Kane Hodder. Brief documentaries (ranging from five to 15 minutes) cover separate installments with amusing anecdotes, including interviews with Sean S. Cunningham, Tom Savini, and various actors. In another doc, actors speak of the fraternity of young actors who've been slaughtered by Jason over the years. A deleted-scenes section is skimpy and not very interesting, while the tricks of special-effects gore merit a film to themselves. It's a customer-savvy DVD box, even if the effect of watching a bunch of this stuff together is a little dispiriting. --Robert Horton

Batman - The Movie Review

I saw this movie when it first came out in theatres. This movie never ceases to amaze me. Although the TV series was intended for youths, it did very well in the ratings amoungst adults - including myself ater it went into sydnication. I bought this DVD a few weeks ago and I still laugh at this campy movie. The DVD includes an additional track on the movie that a person can turn on that has Adam West and Burt Ward doing an audio commentary. Although I am much older now I still laugh at the silliness of this movie. Is there anything that Batman does not carry in his utility belt. And shark repellant (and other unlikely sprays) in a helicopter? There's something you don't see every day but I strong recommend seeing this movie.

Holy camp site, Batman! After a fabulously successful season on TV, the campy comic book adventure hit the big screen, complete with painful puns, outrageous supervillains, and fights punctuated with word balloons sporting such onomatopoeic syllables as "Pow!," "Thud!," and "Blammo!" Adam West's wooden Batman is the cowled vigilante alter ego of straight-arrow millionaire Bruce Wayne and Bruce Ward's Robin (a.k.a. Dick Grayson, Bruce's young collegiate protégé) his overeager sidekick in hot pants. Together they battle an unholy alliance of Gotham City's greatest criminals: the Joker (Cesar Romero, whooping up a storm), the Riddler (giggling Frank Gorshin), the Penguin (cackling Burgess Meredith), and the purr-fectly sexy Catwoman (Lee Meriwether slinking in a skin-tight black bodysuit). The criminals are, naturally, out to conquer the world, but with a little help from their unending supply of utility belt devices (bat shark repellent, anyone?), our dynamic duo thwarts their nefarious plans at every turn. Since the TV show ran under 30 minutes an episode (with commercials), the 105-minute film runs a little thin--a little camp goes a long way--but fans of the small-screen show will enjoy the spoofing tone throughout. Leslie H. Martinson directs Lorenzo Semple's screenplay like a big-budget TV episode minus the cliffhanger endings. --Sean Axmaker

for those too young to know or remember , take our word for it . others here will go into much greater detail about these wonderful (made for television) films . both of and for 1970's tv . in my late forties , these films still captivate me and creep me out . this relentless and admittedly cliched reporter stereotype was and remains a superb guide into things dark and haunting . thanks to its' lead actor and much better than average telefilm writing and directing , these films are timelessly scary . the series that followed was adequate at best . these two films , however , are must owns for true fright enthusiasts . if i can help persuade a few folks-on-the-fence to aquire this set , that would definitely be a good thing .

Wisecracking Carl Kolchak (Darren McGavin) is a rumpled news hound plucked from the fast-talking newspaper flicks of the 1940s and dropped into the swinging '70s. Synopsis:
From the second book of CS Lewis, The Chronicles of Narnia Drawn takes Prince Caspian, where The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe stops. It "was one years ago, since the four Pevensie siblings Peter (William Moseley), Susan (Anna Popplewell), Edmund (Skandar Keynes) and Lucy (Georgie Henley) return to the magical world of Narnia, where mythical creatures exist and that the Animals can speak, even if they did not smoke.
But a year is an expression of1300 to Narnia.
And since the Pevensie children back to London, Narnia is under attack and the Telmarines, who conquered the whole world seems left after a concert by Metallica. Under the evil King Miraz (Sergio Castellitto) who tried to Telmarines (on the Narnians like many Metallica fans) extirpate, pushed her into the woods, where they live underground.
When the Queen of Miraz (Alicia Borrachero) birth of a male heir, Miraz tries in vainto kill his nephew Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes), heir to the throne of the Telmarines. Caspian grew the noble and peaceful culture of Narnia know, and his sympathy with their ways, is forced to flee. He flees into the forest and brings a rag-tag group of Narnia. And when you call for help, he unwittingly takes the four Pevensie siblings, ruled like a wise king and queen, returns to his magical world.
With the closure of the Grand Army Telmarines, the PevensieChildren and Prince Caspian must find a way to defeat King Miraz and restore peace and order in Narnia. As soon as we return to the wisdom of the great lions must be based Aslan (voiced by Liam Neeson). Aslan has not seen for centuries, but Lucy, the youngest of the Pevensie children, still believes in him, and claims that he had discovered how to return them. The good:
Pretty faithful to the novel by CS Lewis, Prince Caspian is a well-structured, the adventure film, very imaginative, and appealing to adults and children. The film will not speak for the children and the special effects are very well done. Receive a majority of Christian symbolism and theological philosophy of the work of Lewis' stay and are effectively woven into the narrative.

As with movies of science fiction one has to use his/her imagination which includes overlooking the overwhelming impossibilities of them (abilities, inventions, etc.). I must add, however, that some impossibilities do not remain impossible and at some future date become possible.

Monster X Strikes Back Review

This a a political parody about international relations specifically "The Group of Eight (G8, and formerly the G6 or Group of Six) is a forum, created by France in 1975, for governments of eight nations of the northern hemisphere: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States; in addition, the European Union is represented within the G8, but cannot host or chair.[1] "G8" can refer to the member states or to the annual summit meeting of the G8 heads of government." (see G8 on Wikipedia for more detail. The Kaiju Guilala was used as a plot device as was his foe, Take-Majin, who parodies both Dai Majin and Ultraman-type characters. Apologies to the fans of 1967's THE X FROM OUTER SPACE but Guilala made Gappa look scary. He was the perfect choice for this film.

I think the one outstanding problem with this version is with so many characters speaking their native languages some of the parody gets lost in the translation. That said , if all else fails ,the nuclear suppository should convince you not to take it seriously. If you do , you have no sense of humor or clue as to the point the film was attempting to make regarding international politics and globalization.

Resident Evil (Deluxe Edition) Review

The Umbrella Corporation-a global leader in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and medical hardware, yet they somehow find the time to dabble in genetic engineering and bio-weaponry. Their latest invention, the T-Virus, promises to reanimate dead bodies. When a vile of this virus is released within Umbrella's underground laboratory known as the Hive, they find out just how potent that concoction is.

The radiant Milla Jovovich takes on the role of Alice, a woman who wakes up on a shower floor, completely unaware how she got there. We follow Alice as she attempts to piece together what is going on. Of course, she has to splatter some undead brains all over the place in search of the truth.

The atmosphere in this movie is spot on. Narrow corridors and flickering florescent bulbs creates an eerie environment reminiscent of the video game series. They also borrowed the extreme high and low angle camera angles from the games. This makes for a tense experience as our heroes move through the halls of the Hive, unsure of what might be around the corner-and have little time or space to react when they find out.

The picture and audio quality is superb. The transfer is leaps and bounds better than the DVD and audio begs for a nice surround sound system. This Blu is easily the best version of the film to date.

The special features are the standard fare of behind the scenes featurettes and commentaries. The commentaries where all the meat of the special features is at. You get two full length commentaries-one with the cast and one with the filmmakers. The cast commentary is entertaining, but not very informative. Milla does the bulk of the talking which some people will love while other will turn it off early on. The filmmakers commentary is very insightful, and the track that I believe most people will prefer. You also get an alternate ending and a Slipknot music video. They are about as interesting as they sound which will be good or bad depending on who you are.

If you are a Zombie fan, you will love this movie. Even more so if you are fan of the video games. However, Resident Evil will not change the minds of those who are turned off by the living dead. The Blu-ray version is definitely worth the upgrade if you are sitting on the fend, DVD in hand.

Marilyn Manson worked on the soundtrack, so it's no surprise that Resident Evil is best enjoyed by headbangers, goth guys, and PlayStation junkies. Like the interactive game it's based on, this horror hybrid pits a small band of SWAT-like commandos (including Milla Jovovich and Girlfight's Michelle Rodriguez) against a ravenous hoard of zombies, resulting in a gorefest that only sociopaths could love. The tenacious heroes are trapped inside the Hive--an underground complex where an evil corporation conducts illegal research with a deadly virus--and the zombies (reanimated corpses of sacrificed employees) are fodder for endless rounds of gunfire. It's utter nonsense (not unlike director Paul W.S. Anderson's previous Event Horizon), so your best defense is to wallow in it or avoid this trash altogether. A few cool sequences are borrowed from better films (that slice-and-dice laser is cribbed from the 1998 Canadian shocker Cube), but if you're in the mood for heavy-metal carnage, this movie's for you. --Jeff Shannon

The Outer Limits (The New Series) - Sex & Science Fiction Review

I was afraid that these episodes would be banal and unimaginative. No worries. Surprisingly, several of the stories contained on this DVD are genuinely thought-provoking, and quite creative.

My favorite episode of this collection was "Bits of Love" in which the sole survivor of a future nuclear holocaust lives in a carefully constructed holographic and computer-controlled environment. He can interact with the simulations of other human beings, including several ex-girlfriends, drinking buddies, his parents, etc. Unfortunately for the protagonist, the Artificial Intelligence system comprising the holograms begins to act in unexpected ways, that are both plausible and thought-provoking. This is a truly excellent story that technologically may only be twenty or so years ahead of our present state-of-the-art.

"The Human Operators" is another quite good episode here. In this story, the Artificial Intelligence systems of military starships have rebelled against the human crews, such that now each ship is tended by a single human slave, whom the ship ("Ship") treats quite badly. The ruthlessness and heartlessness displayed by Ship to the humans, and our species' inborn hatred of slavery, is the theme that plays out in this very well done story.

"Skin Deep" is an imaginative and downright wierd story in which the protagonist gets ahold of a new holographic gadget that can cause one's appearance to be that of another human being. The homely protagonist expropriates the looks of one of his better-looking co-workers, and the story revolves around the theme that we never really know what goes on in the lives of other people. The episode also credibly examines the role that good looks plays in society. An excellent episode with more than one twist that I will not spoil here.

The other episodes in this six-story set are pretty good, and overall this is an excellent value. The theme of course means that this is not suitable for family viewing with kids around, but there is no hard-core material here either. Most of these stories are surprisingly thoughtful, and often startling. Recommended.

The Outer Limits (The New Series) - Sex & Science Fiction Overview

MGM is grouping episodes from the new Outer Limits anthology series by theme rather than chronology for DVD, and this first collection compiles six episodes that focus on matters of the heart (and other body parts). Alyssa Milano's nude scene in "Caught in the Act" will probably garner the most attention, but the disc's strongest hour is "The Human Operators," a thoughtful, award-winning take on man vs. machine that's adapted from a story by science fiction legends Harlan Ellison and A.E. van Vogt. This reworking of the 1963-1965 science fiction series is competent but lacks the palpable suspense of the original series. Also, there's no sense of new ground being broken with its stories; the original series took risks with its parables on war ("Soldier") and technology ("O.B.I.T."). The new Limits also tackles issues, but the end results pack a lesser punch. Hardcore sci-fi fans may take to this tempered-down version; all others will find it mildly diverting. --Paul Gaita

Drive-In Cult Classics 3 Review

In Drive-In Cult Classics Volume 1, the viewer got a collection of trashy but fun dramas which focused on illicit sex and death. I have not watched Volume 2, which is a set of low-budget horror movies, some of which have even made it to Mystery Science Theater. Volume 3, however, is a true mish-mash of movies, but are overall pretty fun. All come from Crown International Pictures, a distributor of cheesy exploitation flicks (with a definite inclination towards gratuitous nudity).

Volume 3 has eight movies on four discs. On the first disc is The Babysitter and Weekend with the Babysitter, a pair of generally unrelated but similar movies. Each involves a middle-aged man (played by the same actor in both movies) having a fling with his child's babysitter and in the process getting entangled with crime. The Babysitter is the only black-and-white movie in the set.

Disc 2 has The Pink Angels and Blood Mania. Blood Mania is basically a suspense story with a lot of sex and a bit of trippiness. The Pink Angels is nominally a comedy, but it lacks any real laughs. It's the story of a gang of gay bikers. They don't actually do anything with each other, but instead are just an over-the-top collection of gay stereotypes. Even for those who find this movie likeable will be put off by the ending where things take an abrupt turn.

Things get both better and worse on Disc 3. Single Room Furnished is a rare Crown attempt to be arty, with an adaptation of a play about the tragic love life of a young woman. Unfortunately, the movie is too stagy and the acting and writing are subpar, led by Jayne Mansfield in her final role before her death in a car accident.

On the other side of Disc 3 is the first of a threesome of similar movies that continue on Disc 4. All three are late-`70s teen sex comedies. Van Nuys Blvd. (on Disc 3) romanticizes the era of cruising down the boulevard every Wednesday night. The Pom Pom Girls focus on some high school football players and their attempts to woo the title characters. Malibu Beach takes place mostly on Malibu Beach. All three are reasonably interchangeable: I enjoyed Van Nuys Blvd. the best (it seemed to have the most likeable characters), but they're all decent and pieces of cinematic greatness compared to some of the other Crown fare.

Overall, this is another collection of trashy fun; I enjoyed all these films with the exception of Single Room Furnished (more boring than bad) and to a lesser extent, Pink Angels. There are even a couple extras: a commentary and a couple movie trailers. For what these movies are - cheap entertainment - this is a good set to pick up.

Terminator 3 - Rise of the Machines (2-Disc Widescreen Edition) Review

This film was the most depressing of the Schwarzenegger
Terminator Trilogy. Frankly, they should have stopped with
T2, because this was one was depressing. It turns out that
in T2, they did not stop Skynet, that artificial intelligence of the
future. They only postponed "judgement day", that day when
the machines declare war on humanity: Sort of like a
cybernetic version of "9-11". The two Terminators come across
as lawyers, one for the Defense (he wants to postpone
Judgement Day) and one for the Prosecution (all humans are
guilty, and beyond redemption).

In this film, John Connor comes across as weak and
ineffectual. He appears to be semi-illiterate. Whenever he
tries to put together a logical statement he sounds like he is
"jumping to conclusions".

Frankly, the kid in T2 (as annoying as he was) is still a much
better choice to "lead the Resistance" than this guy, who takes
over 3/4 of the film to realize that he is not the only important
person the Terminator has come back to protect. He meets
Kathy Brewster, who is oddly better able to control her emotions
than he is. She locks him in a "kennel", a "cage" when they first
meet. Maybe she should be the future leader of 'the Resistance'?
But remember Connor's biological dad from T1?: He seemed to
have leadership qualities that his son lacks here in the present.
And in T2, the scene where that kid teaches the Terminator "bad
English" while his mother sits silently in the back not admonishing
him, is heartbreaking. What kind of parents are they? He is
fatherless.

There is some humour in the movie. A male cashier asks the
Terminator if he intends to pay. The Terminator extends his hand,
like a Nazi, and says: "Talk to the hand". He then takes the food
and walks out, without paying. INCENTIVES and INTIMIDATION,
like a super model without a credit card. The Terminator: Give him
what he wants and maybe he will not break anything, especially
our legs. The Super Model: Give her what she wants and she might
return.

A woman might bake a cookie for her child. But if a child looks
around his room he might observe that there is very little there that
was built by a woman. For whom do men build things, and why?
"Paper, or plastic?" is a question that used to be heard in grocery
stores, but did not refer to money. Metal, and electronic information,
can be used as money. Men seem to build things for pay checks, or
otherwise attempt to purchase affection (approval) with their works.
Where is the man who has not "paid for..."?

The Terminator tells Brewster, that without her, he would have no
"meaning", for he would be useless in a world without humans to
serve. (The woman was created for the man, wherefore he feels a
NEED for her, and she might WANT him, if he is useful.)

CAVEAT: Profanity, obscenities.

The Sgt. Candy clip, found in the 'extra features' section on
disc 2, is an interesting example of reverse psychology. He
looks white, but sounds like an oppressed black male,
attempting to "fit in" by not sounding aggressive, or displaying
a confident masculinity. Instead he sounds like a child, a boy,
or a man, who has been hurt, not allowed to play with the other
kids, rejected by society, refused employment many times, etc.,
and so he pretends that what happened to him, didn't really
happen. Sgt. Candy wears a mask of denial to conceal "the
pain" of "not belonging", of not being accepted as a person.
He plays the part of "silly negro", a "tool", a disposable
commodity, as soldiers are taught to be. In the army, they are
called "maggots". In the army, females may advance to positions
of command, without ever seeing combat, for they are given the
option, not to SEE combat. They are F, and the soldiers are m,
"maggots". Frankly, the St.Candy clip is the best reason to get
this movie, T3.

The movie closes with these words, which are written, or
spoken, depending I think upon which version of the movie
you get:

The future has not been written...
There is no fate but what we make for ourselves.

Lara Croft - Tomb Raider [Blu-ray] Review

Angeline Jolie, gives us the female version of "Indiana Jones" in this wild cartoon-like adventure story, which is fun to watch. Being a mentally lightweight action film with no credibility (no villain ever harms Jolie in this film despite firepower that would take out some Third World countries) but our heroine is there to save the day, of course!

Jolie mainly is there to show off her chest in tight tee-shirts and perform near-impossible stunts. To her credit, she went to extreme lengths to get herself physically-fit for the role.

Audio-wise, this is a one of the better DVDs you will ever hear, with excellent use of the surround speakers. Nice scenery, a sharp picture and low profanity also are pluses. Yes, the action is a little much and too loud in spots but otherwise "Tomb Raider" is a fun adventure that is recommended to all.

p.s. Skip the sequel; it's a weak one.

Like the video game series it's based on, Tomb Raider is best enjoyed for its physical strategies, since even casual scrutiny of story details will induce a headache. It's more concerned with puzzles than plot, populated with characters that don't have personalities so much as attitudes. It's silly and somber at the same time, but as a franchise vehicle for Angelina Jolie in the title role of relic hunter Lara Croft, this is packaged entertainment at its most agreeable, ambitious in scope and scale, and filled with the kind of globetrotting adventure that could make Jolie the best thing that's happened to action movies since Indiana Jones. Could being the operative word here, because Tomb Raider can't match any of Steven Spielberg's celebrated joyrides, but the ingredients are there for an exquisitely cinematic meal.
Perhaps to distance himself from Lara Croft's video game origins, director Simon West takes things a bit too seriously; Tomb Raider handles its plot (involving a planetary alignment, the nefarious Illuminati, and coveted relics that hold the key to controlling the flow of time) with all the gravity of a championship chess match... minus the tension. If the movie had lightened up and been truly suspenseful (instead of being suffused with been-there, done-that familiarity), it would have been an instant popcorn classic. As it is, however, this is an elegantly mounted adventure featuring exotic locations (in Cambodia and Iceland) and an exotic star born for her role. Even without her padded bra, Jolie would be the living embodiment of Lara Croft, and that's enough to bode well for inevitable sequels. --Jeff Shannon

It has a nice balance of song and talking. My kids sing along with the songs, and laugh out loud at Cookie Monster's impatience to get those cookies. Sure, the character's got a problem with subject pronouns, but his vocabulary is otherwise great, and he's so pure in his commitment to cookies. I wish I could find another video this good. It's a total hit!

Our young hero suddenly finds himself in The Forbidden Kingdom, where Lu Yan, his partner of Golden Sparrow Yifei Liu fascinating and Monaco played as a monk known (played by Jet Li) must receive a personalMonkey King, is still immortalized in stone in the cave of King Jade.
The picture gives the impression that in a fantasy world where anything is possible.
It has some classic funny moments, especially when Lu Yan tries to summon the rain, while the face strict monk mocks his attempt.
This is a great action film with moments of fantasy, comedy, and the fans are likely to call for a continuation.

Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within [Blu-ray] Review

It's a shame that this film didn't do as well as it should have. It didn't do very well in terms of critical response (44% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and a 49 out of 100 on Metacritic), it was a box office bomb to the point of where Square Enix kicked the film's director and producer Hironobu Sakaguchi (The creator of the Final Fantasy game franchise) to the curb, and some people have been popping up who proclaim it to be "the worst video game movie ever!" Surprisingly, one of the biggest defenders of the film was film critic Roger Ebert who I hate greatly for a number of reasons. Roger Ebert handed the film a 3.5 out of 4-star rating and didn't believe people would understand the film. I believe Square Enix reacted a little too quickly to fire the creator of Final Fantasy, which I believe was a big mistake. And to those of you who think this is the worst video game film ever, clearly you've never sat through an Uwe Boll travesty, have you? Not to mention, most scores on different sites that I've researched, beg to differ on such a proclamation. I loved this film, it was an amazing cinematic accomplishment in terms of CGI and sci-fi action films. It may not have the most original storyline, but it does pull you in to a certain extent.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Year: 2065, thirty-four years previously, a mysterious alien forced called Phantoms invaded the Earth and destroyed most of the life on Earth by stealing the spirits of their victims. Now the planet is overrun with the Phantoms. Dr. Aki Ross is a woman struggling with a Phantom parasite inside of her body and suffers from strange dreams she cannot explain. She goes around the planet trying to find eight spirits which, when all eight are collected, will destroy the Phantoms. With the help of the Deep Eyes Squadron and her mentor, Dr. Sid they search the planet to find the seventh and the most important eight spirit. But they face troubles with the military, and the military unknowingly is about to destroy Gaia (Earth's spirit) and let the planet become overrun with the Phantoms. Now Aki and the team must stop this from happening and destroy the Phantoms at their source.
MUSIC: This music is simply amazing. It fit the mood well and was extremely well-written and composed. I have absolutely no gripes with this area at all, the music is stunning to put it bluntly.
ACTION: This film a feast for the eye. The CGI is staggering and beautiful in every way... and this film came out eight years ago! Nothing competes with this film's CGI, not even Pixar films! The action scenes are wonderful and totally awesome in every regard. The film starts off slow, but then the film goes off with a bang and doesn't stop till the end. It gets the blood and adrenaline pumping and refuses to let go. This is how a Star Wars animated flick should be, not the disastrous Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Widescreen Edition) (Let's just try and pretend that never happened). Quite simply, this sci-fi flick is kickass.
ACTING: Although not all these actors are recognizable, their performances are really good, even though there are some moments of questionable dialogue. This film may not have the most compelling characters, but they do their job well and they do move the storyline along quite well. Overall, this area is really good.
OVERALL: If you love sci-fi flicks, CGI films, or just love awesome films in general, you must see this film because it will blow you away in just about every way.
THE GOOD: Stunning CGI animation, awesome action scenes, good acting, and great music.
THE BAD: The storyline doesn't quite live up to the potential and there are moments of awkward dialogue.

Earth is a desolate wasteland in Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Humanity has been decimated by an invasion of Phantoms, insubstantial aliens that extract and devour the spirits of living things. The few remaining humans have retreated to a handful of cities that are protected by massive bio-energy shields. The beautiful Dr. Aki Ross (voiced by Ming-Na) and her mentor Dr. Sid (Donald Sutherland) have discovered that the energy signatures of eight key Earth spirits can cancel out and destroy the Phantoms. With the help of Captain Edwards (Alec Baldwin) and his band of marines, they must scour the globe for the last two remaining spirits before General Hein (James Woods) manipulates the refugee government into attacking the aliens with an orbital laser that may also destroy the Earth.

Hironobu Sakaguchi's film is taken from the popular Final Fantasy video game franchise, which is particularly well suited to film adaptation with its series of original stories, but the movie features entirely new characters and settings. And like Toy Story and Shrek, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is completely computer generated. Unlike those cartoon comedies, though, The Spirits Within is a serious science fiction drama with astonishingly human digital actors. Aki, the female lead, appeared in a full-page spread in Maxim magazine's Hot 100 list--and was indistinguishable from the real-life models. The setting and conflict make for incredible action, but it's the larger issues, character interaction, and human elements that really make the movie shine. The Spirits Within is not simply a science fiction movie, in the same way that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is not simply a kung fu flick. The result is a fantastic summer movie with better action and more emotion than Pearl Harbor, and actors more lifelike than those in that other video game movie, Tomb Raider. --Mike Fehlauer

A Beautiful Mind is a really beautiful film, and it should not be missed by each of the right age to know in order to appreciate its beauty. It is a schizophrenic mathematician named John Nash, who spends his days trying to a revolutionary discovery / formula that will change life here. The irony is that life does not work if we try to solve it as an equation. Only if we let go and let life happen to us, that we find our true happiness. The Beautiful Mind is aexaggerated history of the Act, and get how terrible life is when you try to solve the non-existing formula.
John Nash is an unpleasant man, not good in social situations, but an incredibly talented mathematician. He is so good, in fact, that he spends most of his time trying to find a revolutionary discovery in mathematics. I like to think of it as a "life-formula", or a discovery that would never happen. The turn of the film, which is done by some in the middle, that is Nashsuffers from a severe form of schizophrenia, and half of the situations or places which are in his life, are only part of his "beautiful" mind.
An imaginary character that he creates is his roommate, Charles. Nash is very good with Charles, who see the public suspicious from the outset that John Nash is not really good job with someone else. The other characters, Nash creates named Parcher, who works to solve a conspiracy case, an atomic bombThreat to the U.S. in the conspiracy Nash situation goes wrong in your head, that is, if he in need of spiritual help. He is taken to a psychiatric hospital and receive intensive treatment. Upon his return home, have suppressed the visions, but that every aspect of the beautiful mind of John Nash. He can not really think, feel, act, or right. He keeps taking the medication, and lost a battle with his schizophrenia. Instead of the hospital, he tries to fightHallucinations as they see fit. This is the turning point of the film where Nash learns how to truly live his life.
Nash learns that life is more than making a discovery, or to solve an equation. It is the love and emotions are involved, a woman who cares for your baby, and the everyday pleasures of life. Instead of his time to himself, John decides to go back to teaching classes, and shares his amazing knowledge with his students. All this, while the sign was ignoredabove his head. Here is an amazing inspirational quote from John Nash, which I will mention will be mentioned here:
"Are the hallucinations ... gone?"
"No, but I've received, to ignore them, and as a result, they have given up on me this. I think that's sorta how it is with dreams and nightmares. We need to keep having to feed them to stay alive "
This is one of the most true and inspirational quotes that I can be heard ever. Dreams will gradually disappear if we do not concentrateon them, and take consistent action toward them. Nightmares will continue as long as we feed them our attention. John Nash won the Nobel Peace Prize at the end of the film, for his contributions to society. A Beautiful Mind is a film about the importance of enjoying every day of your life, and are not in ridiculous theories or fantasies for a future that can not be caught. If we do not focus on the present moment, it may be the biggest regret in our lives. Embrace life of everyDay does not include a fantasy world.

Fox Horror Classics Collection (The Lodger / Hangover Square / The Undying Monster) Review

3 films from the 20th Century Fox vaults that i'm proud to add to my dvd collection. Two of the films, The Lodger and Hangover Square, features the very underrated Laird Cregar in what I believe were his only 2 starring roles. What a fantastic actor this gentleman was and thankfully with the release of this box set, will always be. Other reviews have revealed the films storylines so I won't go into that. IMO Mr. Cregars own tortured private life spills over into his acting in both films which also adds a note of sadness and sympathy to both performances. With beautiful leading ladies, Merle Oberon in The Lodger and Linda Darnell in Hangover Square plus the exquisite b/w photography of foggy victorian England make both of these films a winner in my book.I also enjoyed the commentary of Hangover Square featuring the second leading lady of that film, Faye Marlowe. The only other work I have seen Miss Marlowe in is Fox's 1945 hit Junior Miss with Peggy Ann Garner. It's a treat to hear her take on the studio system and her very short film career. Not to mention what a lovely young lady she was. The third film in this box set is one I had never seen or even heard of. The Undying Monster. A "B" picture that is as classy looking as any "A" production I have seen. The film stars "B" leading actors James Ellison and Heather Angel. Miss Angel is one of my favorites who also had good roles in The Informer, Pride and Prejudice and Cry Havoc. Spooky atmosphere, a gothic castle on a cliff and first rate b/w photography imo make this little gem as good as any of the classic horror flicks that Universal was making at the time. I highly recommend this set to add to your own collection. They truly don't make them like this anymore but thanks to dvd can be enjoyed over and over again.

House Review

House: Limited Edition (20,000) includes House (1, 1985) and House II (1986). House was a four or five star comedy-horror flick that I really enjoyed. Buying this edition permitted me to obtain both House (1) and House 2 for a good price.

I saw House in 1985 when it first opened and thought it was a very clever and well made movie starring William Katt (Carrie and Greatest American Hero). It had good casting, sets, musical score and the creature effects were pretty well done. Special effects were made before the advent of CGI or advanced prosthetics but were effective and hold up very well for the majority of creatures represented.

Since the founding of the Japanese animated films the world has learned to fall in love with her, and because many of them in Japanese, you'll find that the people to read the subtitles and still like to see these movies used to. Animated films in Japan began in 1917, and since have gone on more than just movies, but make cartoon series.

In the early spring of 1993, a year before the series was launched, the two-hour movie and series pilot Babylon 5: The Gathering appeared. This proto-Babylon staked out the initial territory for the series (some of which would change by the first episode), introducing primary characters and sketching out the alliances and rifts in interplanetary diplomacy. Some of the primary characters bowed out after their initial appearances (Tamlyn Tomita's Lt. Commander Laurel Takashima and Johnny Seka's Dr. Benjamin Kyle never returned; Patricia Tallman's telepath Lyta Alexander made periodic revisits beginning in the second season, eventually rejoining the cast permanently). Set on the first anniversary of the Babylon 5 (none of the first four stations survived even a month), the central story involves the attempted assassination of the newly arrived Vorlon, the mysterious Ambassador Kosh, at the hands of (perhaps) Commander Jeffrey Sinclair (Michael O'Hare). Security Chief Michael Garibaldi (Jerry Doyle, a smart-aleck tough guy in the Bruce Willis vein) investigates and uncovers a web of conspirators, a portent of things to come. When TNT picked up the series for the fifth season Straczynski reedited the pilot, weaving back in a dropped subplot while cutting the rest of the film more tightly, tweaking special effects, and commissioning a new score from Christopher Franke. This is the cut released on video, a stronger, more engaging film, but still a broad first stab at characters that would redefine themselves through the course of the show's run. --Sean Axmaker

Moonlight By the Sea Review

I saw this film by Justin Hennard at the 2004 Fearless Tales Genre Fest in San Francisco and it simply blew me away! 'Moonlight by the Sea' is a tale of a man's battle within himself and the company that owns him. Set in the near future, one conglomerate company - The Corporation, now owns the world. Albion Moonlight (Sean Allen), is The Corporation's top salesman and foot soldier, who while traveling on an urgent and important mission, crashes his spaceship onto a barren planet with no chance of rescue, communication or possibility of completing that 'big deal.' Meanwhile back on earth, everyone is linked to The Corporation either by employment or the mass consumerism of its mind-altering, addictive products. This is 'Big Brother' on a more logical scale - and eerily - it doesn't appear so far off from the distant future when reviewing the country's status today. Albion, now free of the Corporation's wiring and mechanized thought-reading equipments that have been part of his being for most of his adult life, is, for the first time, alone. His journey through the dry and desolate landscape puts his 'own' mind into overdrive. Have the voices of the Corporation finally stopped? Does he now have free thought and a chance to escape? Unfortunately 'no.' With all this 'free time' on his hands and the fear that he will eventually be rescued and returned to 'active' duty, he obsesses on how to complete his mission. So 'new' is free thought and privacy to him, that he conjures up 2 beings to walk his journey with him; there is Stranger, played by Kingsley Martin, who expertly portrays the side of Albion's brain that is 'all Corporation'. When Albion lets his thoughts wander to the other side of his brain and the prospective of a real life, Stranger begins to short circuit! Albion leaves Stranger behind with the ship to pursue other avenues of thought and escape. His childhood, a loving mother, a once-loving wife, and happy days - all flood back to him. He is allowed free thought and for once, no one can hear it! Enter Nomman, played by Prince Camp. Nomman is the human side of Albion's brain, slowly and patiently trying to reopen the dried riverbeds of Albion's mind, which are much like the landscape they are traveling together.
As we journey through Albion's complex and resigned existence, the film is intercut with high-tech scenes from Corporation Headquarters and our introduction to Gwen Klaus, played by the gorgeous and capable Mylinda Wenz. She is charge of all product sales and the 'correct' thought patterns of her drone workers. She is thrown off schedule by Albion's disappearance and the corporation demands answers and solutions. The Corporation products, which are denied use by any corporation member, are also becoming part of Gwen's closet addiction. She enlists the aid of Capt. Santop (Gary Peters) to assist her, and in an unusual twist of subliminal romance, he covers for her and accepts her strict and clinical abuse, even after discovering her illegal usage. For more storyline, you simply have to get your hands on a copy of this great film. MOONLIGHT BY THE SEA is not your average, run of the mill, sci-fi romp. You're really going to have to put your thinking cap on kids and start using a little gray matter for this one! Justin Hennard has brilliantly created a future world and a hopeless existence for all living under the dictatorship of one singular mindset. He opens the film within the dark and claustrophobic hull of Albion's small ship, and with an ever-widening pinhole of light, he slowly opens the frame to reveal a constricted world.
Shot in lush black & white - a wonderful switch from the computerized C.G.I. fare of today - Hennard's photography grows comparison to the high-art camera work of 90' icons Bruce Weber and the late Herb Ritts. His streamlined sets, lighting, and total attention to detail and continuity, make for very sophisticated viewing. It took me to a far away place - I never once looked at a shot and thought - 'Oh, I know where that is!' Moonlight's look and expression reminded me much of those great French filmmakers from the 1960's. Quite impressive from a new filmmaker who is still very young - but only in years! An art film? Yes. An allegory to today's consumerism and greed? Absolutely!
There isn't a lot of action, just human condition. I think Ray Bradbury and Rod Serling would cheer at Justin Hennard and Jonathan Ackley's intelligent screenplay. I found 'Moonlight' very similar to one of my favorite films; Stanley Kramer's 1959 film of Nevil Shute's WW III epic, On The Beach, which placed Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner in a tale of apocalyptic proportions and relied solely on their 'humanness' as a storyline - and not millions of dollars of special effects.
Some may think MOONLIGHT BY THE SEA a bit highbrow and surreal, but maybe its just time for all of us to start using that part of our brain not controlled by the mass media and look a bit deeper as well. I'm so happy to see it finally getting distribution! * * * *

My main criterion was women awesome inner strength. If they happen to be beautiful, even better. I would not rule out the bad girls.

The Harry Potter book has just been released in the bookstores this week. This book is the sixth book in a planned series of 7 pounds.
I'm sure you've all heard that these books have been a great success, and there are millions of children around the world connected to these books and many adults are. The publishing industry has never quite let go. What is the fascination with these books and now the movie, why are so many children and someAdults, these books drawn?
There have always been movies and fiction books on witchcraft, sorcery and witchcraft - but none of them ever gained the popularity that this series has the books. What is so different from the books with this line? Why are they so much more popular than anything else ever written?
Many of the major Christian ministries are large weapons on these
Books and now the movie. They say that these books are a lure for children and leadAdults in witchcraft and the other dark occult arts.
However, we have always had this kind of films and books coming to us. Why suddenly so many Christians are against these books, where it really does not in the past with all the fantasy films from Hollywood to come by in the past.
I've always felt in my spirit that there really is something different with these series of books - but I've never bought or read them all. I went ahead and rents the first Harry Potter video and watched it in its entirety to see if these Christians are right in their criticism of this movie and these books or if they're not only led to him that straightforward at first glance seems to be harmless fantasy
Entertainment.
After the monitoring and review of this film very carefully, it is my personal opinion that the Christians into the arms of these books and movies are right! This> Film and especially the series of books themselves, is a definite lure from the dark side and to lure people into the trap of not only witchcraft itself - but other occult arts, which were expressly forbidden by God the Father in the Bible.
There is no question that Satan is orchestrating the way that these books were written and how they were so clever to a mass audience put on the market that have no idea what's really lurking behind all of it. Satan has very cleverly puta great spiritual mystery of these books and movies that is in operation in the spiritual world, that some of the ignorant and naive is to the real world of draw
Witchcraft.
The secret is the law of spiritual seeking. The Bible tells us to look for - and then we will see. This Spirtual principle works not only in the kingdom of God - but it also works in the field of Satan, where he and his demons, who she tries to eat a second can roam.
And Harry Potter is given the chanceofficial title of a seeker in the first book. And what can go on the lookout when he begins to have the subject of Witchcraft and Wizardry after the reading of books of this type of research and implanted the seed of desire in them because of reading these kind of pound? Hundreds and hundreds of books on the subject of witchcraft - all with specific titles, like you really a witch, how to form a circle, how to actually cast spells, etc.
Go to any major bookstore Borders- And you are literally several hundred pounds in their metaphysical section - all of which deal specifically with the issue of witchcraft and how to get started and progress further into it. And if that person decides he will try some of this occult activity - he has now officially crossed into enemy terrority and now he has full view of the legal right to the demonic realm in him and his life.
And all this can only be started by a few seeds of desire, canplanted in an imagined only by imagination and how it would be if they were the kind of supernatural power, has the Harry Potter books would get into all this. And with many of the readers of this line of books that our younger children - it does not much to see what could be a deadly combination this is a very young and very innocent mind will be influenced.

Creator Dan Curtis, desperate to save the show, decided to "go" supernatural, so he launched various spook-filled stories that led to the introduction of vampire Barnabas Collins, portrayed by Jonathan Frid. The storyline saved the show, but several years later, the ratings dipped again. So, Curtis released another phenomenon from the genie bottle: the werewolf, Quentin Collins.

The introduction of Quentin, portrayed unforgettably by David Selby, was a high mark for the show and rejuvinated its fan base. The story involving Quentin had all of the elements that made Dark Shadows a true classic - the only soap opera in history to have had ALL of its episodes released on DVD. Like Frid two years earlier, Selby became incredibly popular, an instant idol and sex symbol among teenaged girls.

In this special disc, the origin of Quentin is told. Selby was also interviewed specially for this compilation release.

Quentin's tale had the core cast of the series portraying their own relatives, and other characters in the Collinwood of 1897, after Barnabas Collins had traveled back in time using secrets from the mystical Chinese practice of the I Ching, or Book of Changes.

Barnabas had made the supernatural voyage back in time to save young David Collins and his friend, Amy Jennings, who had both become possessed in modern-day (1970's) Collinwood. The children were being menaced by a horrifying and utterly silent ghost - the spectre of Quentin Collins.

Quentin was the victim of a werewolf curse that had been placed on him by a grieving gypsy, Magda Rocozzi (portrayed with memorable gusto in an Emmy-calibre performance by Grayson Hall), who blamed him for the death of her sister, who was also Quentin's wife.

Complicating the plot was the arrival of the sinister Count Andres Petoffi (also protrayed with brilliance by core cast member Thayer David), who possessed supernatural powers and was being hunted by the gypsies. Barnabas believed that the cure to Quentin's "affliction" rested with Petofi. If Quentin could be cured, then the children facing death in Collinwood's present day would be saved!

The core brilliance of has made Dark Shadows endure are the eternal themes it illustrated: Love, death, fear, longing, revenge, obsession, lies, secrets, loyalty and betrayal all played out against a compelling backdrop of Gothic sensibilities that included vampires, werewolves, zombies, seances, time travel, ghosts, mystery, murder, intrigue and a constant dose of the unexpected.

This "soap opera" managed to transcend its genre by bringing a taste of Gothic horror and science-fiction fantasy to the hum-drum world of the afternoon drama. There had never been anything like it before - and there never has been since!

The Fray is a post-apocalyptic newly published novel by author Philip Bradbury, it is a blend of science fiction, fantasy and horror fans, and would also contribute significantly to the post-apocalyptic fiction appeal. Having been heavily influenced by authors such as Stephen King and Robert Jordan; Bradbury has infused his worship and adoration of the hand of his literary colleagues in his own work, so a novel is rich in depth, with touches of mysticism and turns of the story that Stephen would doKing proud.
Bradbury taps into the themes and plot devices that are used a lot of fans of this genre, but he delivers them with such originality and conviction that he fills the reader with excitement and curiosity.
The book is in the distant future in which the majority of the population of the world from a virus Destrachan overcome nightmarish set, that their sacrifice eating meat turns into crazy zombies. The rest of humanity is rather uncertain in closed severalreinforced outposts, which can protect them from the constant attacks of the undead. Sera and Gabriel have to fight from a nearby outpost against the time to humanity, the source of the virus with a fortune-teller predicting to save them to victory guide.
The story with many twists and intrigue that the reader occupies commitment and desire for more, and that one of the many reasons why this book is successful. The story is original yet delicately influenced by other worksfrom the horror and fantasy genre. However, these effects are ultimately beneficial and have helped to Bradbury to create something special that I sincerely hope the reader gets it deserves.

Digimon - The Movie Review

I really love this movie because the animation is a very original style, and though its a bit on the odd-looking style, its decidedly NOT the typical anime. It also has this great fluidity to the way thinsg move in it that I utterly adore. Thedubbers actually did a pretty good job with the translation and music selection. I understand that it was originally three different 'mini movies' in Japan, and the dubbers were able to combine them really well so that the transitions weren't too bad. They all had a connection with one another so it wasn't seperated completely.

All in all, I think this is a great movie if you're a fan of animation and so forth.

Michael Keaton is Doug, an overworked husband and father. He is being pulled in a hundred different directions, so he clones himself. Problems solved... right?

I really like this film. Keaton does a great job of playing four separate Dougs. The clones get the best lines in this movie, and I still find myself quoting #4 all the time.

A sweet movie about making time for your family, this film takes an original approach. It doesn't try to be anything more than cute, and I think it works.

An inevitable idea: a working man (Michael Keaton) who can't meet all his professional and family responsibilities has himself cloned. It works so well having one copy of himself to take charge of matters at the office that he makes another copy who takes care of the home front. Pretty soon, different aspects of Keaton's personality are emphasized in the different clones: the laborer becomes a macho creep and the domestic god becomes rather feminine. A third clone, struck from the duplicates instead of the original, becomes like a photocopy of a photocopy: inferior. This timely comedy should be better than it is, but special-effects requirements are so labor-intensive that most scenes feel stiff and leaden. Keaton is good in all four parts, and in certain gee-whiz effects scenes, where he even high-fives himself, he pulls off a minor miracle or two. (Of course, a kid did the same thing in Disney's 1998 remake of The Parent Trap.) The Matrix Review

One of the best sci-fi movies ever made. Filmmaker Darren Aronofsky had this to say: "I walked out of The Matrix...and I was thinking, 'What kind of science fiction movie can people make now?' The Wachowskis basically took all the great sci-fi ideas of the 20th century and rolled them into a delicious pop culture sandwich that everyone on the planet devoured."

As for myself, I enjoyed watching this movie (again & again!), in spite of the the overt Christian symbolism:

I haven't seen the two sequels. Somehow I feel I'll be let down, even if they're not bad. I don't usually love Keanu Reeves but in this role he plays the clueless Neo well, and Hugo Weaving is one of modern cinema's classic villains as Mr. Smith.

The only downside to the DVD is the subpar commentary track (with Carrie-Anne Moss and two others).

Beautifully remastered and tons of special features. This is the Batman I grew up so of course it is my favorite. The new ones are great but this one just takes me back to my youth. Chuck your old copy and get this masterpiece.

Polar Express with the starring voice of Tom Hanks is a excellent piece of filming art. I for one, am very fond of this new generation of animation. The dimension, color and detail in modern animation is simply mind boggling.

This Warner Brothers G rated film has a easy to follow story and theme. This is a great treat for the whole family to enjoy. A very entertaining and fun Christmas movie.

I'm proud to be able to say I own this movie on DVD.
